There is before long a need to implement a proper Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) in the bank I am presently working.T open of Contents1.0 Introduction1.1 Introduction of the conThe vision for all Mauritian banks is to be the best bank for customers to bank with.CRM is the concept of building a strong relationship with your customer and making sure that he comes back a do good by providing him with a high quality renovation.CRM is an integration of technologies and business processes used to satisfy the needs of a customer during all condition interaction. More ad hocally, CRM involves acquisitions analysis and use of knowledge about the customers in order to sell practically goods or services and to do it more efficiently (Bose. 2002. Pg 1 )Customers are now more than ever demanding a different relationship with their suppliers, managing a close relationship has become a central aspect in delivering the business goals (Xu, Yen et al, 2002). With the growing in technology available to customers today the world has become a much smaller commercializeplace and the relationship an even more important change aspect. Walton Xu (2005) explain that CRM is widely regarded as method of retaining and developing customers, through change magnitude loyalty and satisfaction.According to Drucker (1996) knowledge is the solitary(prenominal) meaningful resource and the single real competitive differentiator. Xu Yen et al (2002) further state that thriving companies pass oning use customer information systems to build relationships on the take aims that customers postulate them, and by organizing the information about each customer a unexpended 360 degree view can be made of e ach client throughout the comp either no matter how many customers they have. Companies are as well realizing they can more easily lock in customers by spirit their needs and competing with exceeded expectations, something which CRM systems can attention organize (H. Kale, 2004).The realization of the benefits of CRM are in any case noted in the market of related software harvest-time, in 2008 the CRM market reached 8.9 billion USD and to increase by nearly 50% by 2012 (Gartner Group, 2008).The psychoanalyze is to investigate how CRM will benefit the bank I am shortly working with.1.2 Problem StatementI have been in the banking sector for more than 13 years and had held different positions starting from teller, responsibilityr and shortly to be the Head of Business Solutions.shortly the bank has expanded and coordinated with an opposite sister company, information and customer retention has become amongst others the burden of motion. Currently we could note that info is b eing held in different systems and consolidation is a big headache. This has impacted on service delivery. Duplication of entropy and heaviness in process has strongly been felt within the organization. Currently the bank does not hold a proper CRM system to terminus most of these issues and to minimize missed opportunities. Having highlighted this, a proper CRM will help in achieving greater height by the organization. The focus of most CRM systems tally to Xu Yen et al.(2002) is to aid in the understanding of customers. By warehousing sedate entropy about many different customers, forecasts of both customers future acquire trends as well as man-to-man customer behavior can be made.Customer Relationship Management can as well as help in breaking d consume the barriers between departments, something which can prove to be quite difficult, as in some firms there are even deep rivalries between departments (Edwards. 2007)1.3 Objectives of the StudyAs per Doran, G. T. (1981), w e need to consider the avocation criteria when setting up the accusatorysSpecific Objectives are exclusively related to the business.mensurable The objective can be quantified. For e.g. Increase in profit amounting to Rs1 million instead of Higher profits.Agreed The parties who will be affected instantaneously or indirectly by these objectives need to be informed and in like manner have their consent.Realistic The objective should be challenging, but yet alike be achievable.Time specific The objective should be delimited by time, having a specific start and end date. The following objectives have been set for this studyIdentify the benefit bank already implemented CRM have obtainedDetermine the hurdles and barriers in implementing a proper CRMEvaluate the impact of CRM in the Mauritian Banking CommunityDetermine the benefit that bank will obtained in implementing a proper CRM1.4 investigate QuestionsThe research call into questions in this proposal shall include but not limited to the followingHow CRM has impacted on the internal process of banksWhat are the barriers and obstacle for implementing a proper CRMWhat are the main benefit obtained for a proper implemented CRMHow far do bank staff agree on the benefit of a CRMBy how much has missed opportunities been reduced1.5 Hypotheses (Assumptions)The following hypotheses based on the objective of the study have been formulated supposition IHo Banks in Mauritius do not agree that CRM improves their internal processHA Banks in Mauritius do agree that CRM improves their internal processHypothesis IIHo Banks in Mauritius do not face any barriers and obstacles for the implementation of CRMHA Banks in Mauritius face barriers and obstacles for the implementation of CRMHypothesis IIIHo Banks faculty do not agree that CRM has ease their day to day tasksHA Banks staff do agree that CRM has ease their day to day tasksHypothesis IVHo Banks do not agree that CRM has reduced missed opportunitiesHA Banks do agre e that CRM has reduced missed opportunities2.0 Literature look backwardThe idea behind Customer Relationship Management is not pertly even the earliest merchants knew it was a good idea to build relationships with customers to hold them coming back.(Jobber , 2004)Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is a business melioratement that integratespeople, process and technology to maximize relationships with customersBarton Goldberg, ISM, CRM Strategic Advisors.Jobber has stated the need for loyalty because it is customer loyalty that will ensure that the repeated corrupt in made with your business.According to Storbacka and Lehtinen(2001, p 5) the three main pillars of CRM are Customer value CreationViewing the product as a process and it is the business responsibility for developing customer relationshipsOffering customers the possibilities to cause value for themselves. With the help of technology and human resources, CRM will help a business to gain insight into the behavior o f customers and the value of those customers. For CRM to be impressive and bear its fruits, an organization must devise an fit business strategy that it will have to follow. The organization must overly look at the different ways information about customers comes into a business, where and how this data is stored and how it is currently used. With an effective CRM strategy, a business can increase revenues byProviding adequate services and products that are exactly what customers expectIncrease customer service levelInitiate cross sellingProvide the banks staffs with an extra mechanism that will help them increase businessRetaining existing customers.Bringing new customersPersonalized serviceTarget the right customer with the right productAggressive marketingAll elements are mixed in to increase and maintain greater business to customer relationships. CRM has an impact mostly on marketing, sales, and customer service strategies. CRM helps create time efficiency and savings on both sides of the business spectrum.Through correct implementation and use of CRM resultant roles, companies gain a better understanding of their strongest and weakest areas and how they can improve upon these. thereof, customers gain better products and services from their businesses of choice. In any business, CRM will start from the Back office and will go throughout the whole company to reach the movement office. It is nowadays a must to put the customer at the spunk of the business.Customer experience is the sum total of all the interactions a customer has with your brand during his customer lifecycle. It has become the critical differentiator in todays hypercompetitive, hyper committed global marketplace.Differentiation based on product innovation is no longer sustainable because competitors can leapfrog feature/function advantages more quickly than ever. And differentiation based on price kills profitability. On the other hand, research shows that 86 percent of consumers said th ey would be willing to conciliate more for a better customer experience.2011 Customer Experience doctor Report conducted by Harris InteractiveBeing now the Head of Business solution of the bank, I found it suitable to perform this research in the Mauritian market for implementing a proper CRM solution in the bank ensuring that the bank reap its benefit.3.0 Research MethodologyThis segment describes the methodology that will be followed to address the hypotheses or research questions. It includes the research design, have method, data ingathering procedures, research instrumentation and related data analysis.3.1 Research DesignResearch design provides the basic direction for carrying out a research send so as to obtain answers to research questions (Cooper Schindler, 2003). A descriptive research design will be select for this study since it involved allurement of both qualitative and quantitative information by conducting a adopt. The descriptive research design would ther efore, make predictions and analyse the behaviour of the respondents with respect to the lot.3.2 community and Sample3.2.1 Target PopulationA community is considered to be any group of people, events, or things that are of interest to the researchers and that they wish to investigate (Sekaran, 2000). The purport population for this study will include banks in Mauritius and staff working in the banking sector.3.2.2 Sampling MethodSampling is the process of selecting units (e.g. people, organizations) from a population of interest so that by studying the savor we may more or less worldwideize our results back to the population from which they were chosen. Trochim (2006). It is therefore, important to adopt the appropriate sampling proficiencys and to design the sampling method to minimise any error or response bias. The appropriate sampling technique that will be adopted for the study will be the simple random sampling technique so as to ensure that each officer has an equal vi ew of selection since a simple random sampling is meant to be an unbiased representation of a group3.2.3 Sample SizeTo determine the prove size we need to calculate the necessary the sample size for a different combination of levels of precision, confidence level (93%), and variability. The level of precision also called as the sampling error, is the range in which the true value of the population is estimated to be. This range is often expressed in percentage points, (e.g., 7 percent). A proportion of 0.07 indicates the maximum variability in a populationTherefore the Solvins formula, as described below, will be used to calculate the sample size at 7% level of precision.Where n is the sample size, N is the population size and e is the level of precisionHence the sample size for this study will be 68 on a population of 100.3.3 The research InstrumentThe research instrument for this study will include a structured questionnaire to elicit relevant information from the respondents lend oneself primary and secondary sources of data.Questionnaires have advantages over some other types of surveys in that they are cheap do not require as much effort from the questioner as verbal or telephone surveys, and often have standardized answers that make it simple to compile data. Questionnaires are also sharply limited by the fact that respondents must be able to read the questions and respond to them.An open-ended question asks the respondent to formulate his own answer, whereas a unlikable-ended question has the respondent pick an answer from a given number of options. For this paper, the questionnaire will include both open ended and closed ended questions. The close ended will comprise of dichotomous, multichotomous as well as likert scaled information. The questionnaire will consist of some main sections such asFirst section will demonstrate the barriers and obstacles in implementing CRM jiffy section will point out the benefit obtained from CRMThird section will e valuate the impact of CRM in the Banking Community3.4 Data allurement methodThe choice of the data collection method is influenced by the data collection strategy, the type of variables involved, the accuracy required, the data collection points and the skill of the enumerator. The think between the variables, its source and practical methods for its collection helped in choosing appropriate method. Therefore, for the data collection, the survey method will be adopted given that the survey involved a structured questionnaire given to respondents and designed to elicit specific information with respect to the objectives of the study. Moreover, the data will be gathered by scheduling a meeting with the different targeted organization where the questionnaires will be distributed to the different respondent and collected some days later to have them to give the maximum information in a precise way.3.5 stiffness and ReliabilityValidity is defined as the extent to which differences in observed scores reflect the true nature among objects on the characteristics being calculated and Reliability relates to consistency of results over a period of time. Hence, consideration regarding daring and reliability will be taken into account for this study.3.5.1 Pre examen buff testing is used to identify and eliminate problems before the main survey takes place. 10% of the sample size will be used for flee testing prior to the data collection phase. The pilot test will be used to check questions relevancy, whether respondent understands all questions, and logic of question order.3.5.1 Reliability of dataReliability of data is used to check for internal consistency of data which is measured using coefficient important (also known as Cronbachs alpha).According to George, D., Mallery, P. (2003), the acceptable level for the Cronbach alpha depends on what is being measured, with the general rule of thumb being 0.7. Therefore, for the purpose of this study a Cronbachs alpha of 0.7 or higher will be considered acceptable, and that below 0.75 was regarded as two-dimensional3.6 Data Analysis and interpretationThe data file will then be organized and analysed employing the SPSS software version 16.0 or above. Both descriptive and inferential statistics will be used for analysis where descriptive statistics will include frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Inferential statistics will include degeneration analysis, correlation, chi square, T-test, ANOVA.Significant tests will be conducted at 5% level using p-value as indicator for both significance and hypothesis testing whereIndicator for significanceP-value less than 0.05 = statistical significanceP-value greater than 0.05 = no significanceIndicators to be used for hypothesis testingP-value less or equal to 0.05 = reject Null hypothesis (H0)P-value greater than 0.05 = do not reject Null hypothesis (H0)4.0 Expected ResultsThe following results might be expectedIt is expected that Mauritian Banks has benefited from CRMIt is expect that Mauritian Banks has faced barriers and difficulties in implementing CRMIt is expect that CRM has positively impacted on the internal process of Mauritian Banks. It is expected that number of customers has increased5.0 Ethical ConsiderationsIn order to cheer confidentiality, the data collected will not be revealed to others except in the form of processed data/information without detailing the identity of the individual responses. Relevant permission will be sought from the concerned regimen prior to administering the questionnaires.6.0 Limitation of this studyThe limitation of the study is that not all bank staff will responds due to time constraints. Also only banks where CRM has been implemented will be contacted. However, the data collected from respondents will be analyzed and interpreted within the limited framework allowed.7.0 ConclusionThis study will endeavor to demonstrate to my senior management the benefit in implementing a proper CRM in the bank in order to get hold back-office processes and to leverage the use of IT system. This proposal will quantify the impact on the business in terms of customer retention and new offerings possibilities epoch reducing missed opportunities. Definitely this study will bring a better insight on the capabilities of a CRM.Definitely greater profit would be achieved if the CRM is properly implemented and used.

The Department of Homeland Security: Technology

The Department of country of origin certificate measures measures TechnologyThe stirment The Department of Homeland auspices has complete accountability for all U.S. homeland security related captious al-Qaeda (CI) matters is non entirely accurate originally, matters of field of study security were the sole province of the federal official presidency (Homeland Security, 2003, p. 7). Today, national captious base of operations protection is a say effort among the federal governance, public and secluded heavenss. The Department of Homeland Security was established to protect and secure the homeland from both domestic and foreign threats. According to the Homeland Security Act of 2002, the development of a jut out which result ensure the security of little al-Qaida is the responsibility of the DHS (Homeland Security, 2009). Likewise, the DHS is likewise responsible for recommending the measures necessary to protect the key resources and precise infrastructure of the join States (Homeland Security, 2009, p. 2).The mission of DHS is one that involves the protection of infrastructure and deprecative facilities and networks (Homeland Security, 2010, p. 33). The DHS is responsible for the naming and assessment of all components which make up critical infrastructure. In increment to mitigating potential vulnerabilities improving the resilience of critical infrastructure, is also a sink priority of the DHS. This includes but is not limited to stand-alone facilities and interdependent governing bodys and networks in spite of appearance and a stick critical infrastructure sectors (Homeland Security, 2010, p. 34).The DHS serves as the leader and facilitator for those agencies who sh atomic number 18 responsibility for protecting the nations critical infrastructures (Homeland Security, 2010, p. 31). Those agencies include territorial, tribal, topical anaesthetic and state presidential terms, as head as the private sector and other agenci es not associated with the establishment (Homeland Security, 2003). Conversely, when a disaster occurs these agencies are the first line of defense for national critical infrastructures.Even though the DHS is responsible for leading critical infrastructure efforts, coordination of security measures within local and state governments and critical sector industry leaders are the responsibility of federal lead departments and agencies (Homeland Security, 2003). Similarly, it is the responsibility of state and local governments to provide protection to critical infrastructures that are located within their jurisdictions (Homeland Security, 2003, p. 10). If and when a catastrophic event should occur which exhaust the capabilities of local and state governments, it is up to the federal government to coordinate a solvent (Homeland Security, 2003).A bulk of our nations critical infrastructures are privately possess or operated, which means that the private sector are initially responsibl e for providing protection against threats to their facilities (Homeland Security, 2003). When the threat becomes more than than the private sector can handle then the government give step in to assist and ensure that our nations critical infrastructures and assets are defend (Homeland Security, 2003, p. 11). Likewise, the federal government will be there to provide book for an environment in which the private sector can better stick out out its specific responsibilities (Homeland Security, 2003, p. 11).The chemical sector is one of the most endangered critical infrastructures to natural disaster and terrorist attacks, that existence said the DHS is working with the EPA to enkindle security at chemical facilities (Homeland Security, 2003). In addition, special vigilance is cosmos paid to those facilities which house large quantities of hazardous chemicals (Homeland Security, 2003, p. 78). Studies conducted by the DHS and private sector are currently underway to identify a nd sympathize physical vulnerabilities within the telecommunications infrastructure and their associated risks (Homeland Security, 2003, p. 61).Even though the private sector mustiness on occasion seek assistance from the DHS, there are times when the federal government must rely on the private sector to lend a hand in emergency response and recovery. An example of the federal government calling on the private sector for assistance was the anthrax dash of 2001. A large Washington D.C. construction corporation was haleed to pull off the abatement and restoration of the Brentwood Post office in Washington D.C. and the capital of forward-looking Jersey Post office facility in New Jersey. One must also understand that quite a few of our nations critical infrastructures cross world-wide b orders (Homeland Security, 2003, p. 35). in that respectfore the federal government has partnered with the neighboring countries to provide security for our interconnected infrastructures (Homel and Security, 2003, p. 35). The United States compact with Canada is is a vital asset to national critical infrastructure, efforts are being made to provide protection for international interconnected infrastructures. An example of this partnership is the Alaskan Canadian superiortway. In order to transport goods and supplies to Alaska we must travel cross Canadian territory. It is evident that matters of critical infrastrucutre involves not notwithstanding the DHS but the public and private sectors as well. The DHS would not be able to carry out their responsibilites without the assistance of local and state agencies, the private sector and vice versa. The U.S. government has made great strides in developing techniques and strategies to inure U.S. critical infrastructures which will make them more insubordinate to terrorist attack and natural disasters. One of the U.S. governments goals is to establish a strong partnership that spans across all levels of government, in addition t o the private sector and the American people (Homeland Security, 2009). The Protected Critical Infrastructure Information Program is alone one of many steps taken by the U.S. government to inure critical infrastructure. This program provides protection to security-related critical infrastructure learning (Homeland Security, 2009, p. 5).By breaking down each critical infrastructure sector it is easier to understand how the U.S. government has been successful in hardening each critical infrastructure. The floriculture and food sector is one of the most vulnerable critical infrastructures, that being said, efforts to harden this sector are an ongoing challenge (Mark Sauter James Carafano, 2005). The U.S. government has revised its measures by providing more protection through the hiring of more health inspectors, and adding more reporting requirements (Sauter Carafano, 2005, p. 291). Contamination of our nations water supply is often a topic of concern efforts are being made by t he environmental Protection Agency as well as the Department of Homeland Security to conduct a vulnerability and threat assessment (Sauter Carafano, 2005). These assessments will improve not only site security at high threat locations it will also enhance monitoring and sharing of information (Sauter Carafano, 2005, p. 292).With regards to the critical infrastructure of public health the U.S. government has utilise measures to harden bio medical examination surveillance (Sauter Carafano, 2005). This is extremely important because of the risks of a biological attack. There have also been improvements in hardening security of emergency stockpiles of medical supplies (Sauter Carafano, 2005, p. 294). In order to improve the physical security of medical structures the U.S. government has provided incentives to the private sector (Sauter Carafano, 2005, p. 294).In response to hardening the critical infrastructure of emergency serve the U.S. government has established measures to ha rden interoperable and surplus communication networks (Sauter Carafano, 2005, p. 295). The U.S. government has instituted a tougher national emergency preparedness physical exercise program which teaches better security and promotes consistent protection planning and response protocols (Sauter Carafano, 2005, p. 295). Since the defense industrial base critical infrastructure sector is owned by a majority of the private sector the U.S. government has implemented new measures to include critical infrastructure protection requirements in contract processes (Sauter Carafano, 2005, p. 296). Likewise, security is being strengthened in the defense related commercialized production and distribution processes (Sauter Carafano, 2005, p. 296).The telecommunications critical infrastructure has been assessed by the U.S. government, and in decrease a program has been designed to identify where the most vulnerable areas are in the communication architecture and then address the security have it off (Sauter Carafano, 2005). Conversely, there have also been efforts made in the energy critical infrastructure sector to enhance resilience of the energy facilities (Sauter Carafano, 2005, p. 298). Facility equipment is being repaired and replaced and there have also been improvements in restoration and recovery of services (Sauter Carafano, 2005, p. 298).Significant improvements have been made to harden the transportation critical infrastructure sector for example, security initiatives have been established to provide commercial airliners with protection from shoulder fired missiles (Sauter Carafano, 2005, p. 299). There have also been new developments in screening technology which help identify potential threats to transportation as well as aiding the postal service sector in identifying distrustful mail (Sauter Carafano, 2005, pp. 301-302).Despite the many efforts being made to harden critical infrastructure, there are still several weaknesses in the U.S. governme nts strategy. Lets face it, the only other thing that is more costly than hardening critical infrastructure is the disruption or potential loss of operations in those critical infrastructures. It is clear that trying to harden all critical infrastructures is too intimidate of a task and is not cost effective. The U.S. government needs to concentrate on on those areas of the United States where our critical infrastructures are most vulnerable (e.g. New York City, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. etc.).The federal government also needs to look at the protection of our nations water ways. Information security systems need to be deployed to give the locks on the Mississippi and St. Lawrence seaways (Bruce Don David Mussington). By employing an information security system it will enable the monitoring of vessels and ships while in locks or access locks (Don Mussington). To provide another level of security, river marshals could be deployed to accompany stark shipments through the lock s (Don Mussington). Many people dont realize that a large majority of our nations goods are transported through inland waterways, which is why it is important that more attention be paid to the transportation sector.

Modern Technology Verses The Thinking Man Media Essay

Modern Technology Verses The Thinking Man Media Essay liberality as a whole has witnessed by dint of their own efforts, great advances in the creation, dispersal and application of ideas, teaching and technologies designed with the intention to uplift the boilersuit shopworn of living. With the fibre of these technologies universekind has entered the post new-madeism era where the use of modern applied science has twist an integral instruction of life. The use and consumption of modern media and the signification of the valet semblanceship in the midst of serviceman and applied science however heralds at a price. The thoughts of how kind-heartedity disturbs to their own technological creations and mediate messages, the relationship between humanness and temperament and the essence of applied science with its inherent problems and executable solutions were advanced by the philosopher Martin Heidegger. His writings influenced the thinking of how mankind has allo wed itself to become slaves to its own creation by becoming passive consumers of products and ideologies mediated by the producers of media and engineering science. The rise of consumerism, capitalism and its neighborly implications were to a fault issues of grave c oncern to Heidegger. His ideas and influence merchantman be go steadyn in the writings of philosophers Herbert Marcuse, Max Horkheimer and Theodor W. Adorno who expanded the ideas of Heidegger to describe respective(a) aspects of the social personal effects of the postmodern era and the influence of modern media. Taken from the view of how technology assists adult male to overture the effects of media in contemporary life, the relationships between the producer and the consumer, the creator and the created, the message and the medium for the message and the relationships between the message itself and the consumer is angiotensin converting enzyme of great fascination and complexity. This essay is an attempt to sh ow these relationships, how they were organise, why they were formed and its effects on postmodern society through the ideas of Heidegger with support from the same philosophers. In his essay The Question Concerning Technology (1977) Heidegger establishes that in order to pick up the essence of technology a bleak relationship with it mustiness basic be established. To develop this free relationship the proper use of row is of utmost importance. The true meaning of the script technology harmonise to Heidegger (197713 ) is a mode of revealing. He wherefore establishes that the raillery technology is make up of two parts technie and poiesis. Technie, agree to Heidegger (1977) is defined as the readiness or work of the craftsman and is inclusive of the fine arts. Poiesis is the process of deliverance forth.Heidegger argues that human beings has forgotten the true meaning of technology, which it is a mode of revealing, and this deficiency of under stand has ca utilize huma nity, through this distorted relationship, to create technologies that fulfil a specialized capitalistic part. Heidegger suggests, that (19775) modern technology is a means to an end. and humanity has allowed itself become the servants of technology. The creation of passive observers who grow lost the ability to be revealers themselves preferably of active participants is the end result.Heidegger uses the concept of enframing to describe the relationship between man and nature. Enframing is a process whereby man can structure nature, human relationships, mediated messages and technology to instil premeditated agendas and to increase fiscal wealth. Heidegger explains that since modern technology created for contemporary living is used to serve a capitalistic purpose the essence of technology is enframing and this method of classification must in his word (197723) employ exact physical science.Heidegger akinwise goes on to illustrate how humanity, through enframing, can also h ave adverse effects on nature by challenging nature to reveal itself as commodities to be used. Heidegger (1977) makes comparisons between the practices of a peasant and sear mining. The peasant is in the practice of permit (197715) the forces of growth take its course in the process of producing crops and in overthrow the peasant cargons for and maintains the land. The land is non forced to produce and there it is a harmonious relationship between man and nature. With the use of mechanized tools, coal mining has made the land to be seen as a goodness to produce at (197715) maximum yield at the minimum expense. This according to Heidegger (1977) challenges and forces nature to produce financial wealth and the land is seen as a commodity to be exploited.Heidegger uses the term standing(a) reserve to describe resources that ar stored for human consumption and use. Furthermore he states that e actuallything can be seen as a form of standing reserve by saying that (197717) everyt hing is staged to stand by, to be immediately at hand.. He goes on to bestow the spokesperson of the dam built on the river Rhine as a standing reserve for hydro-electrical cater to the detriment of the river and the surrounding ranges. Nature can also be a commodity to be brought, modified and sold. Plants are seen not for their mantrap but as a standing reserve as medicines for pharmaceuticals, animals are captured and kept in zoos for viewing entertainment and st unrivalleds are collected and sold for scoreion. Human activities are now also termed as industries to be exploited. The entertainment, music, art, leisure and media industries are a small example of the extent that the decently concepts of enframing and standing reserve have on contemporary life. Human beingnesss, curiously in the world of advertise, can also be seen as human resources to be also used and exploited.Although Heidegger was gravely concerned with the direction humanity is heading because of wh at he saw as its disregard for nature and privation of the true meaning of the essence of technology he offered a possible solution to what he saw as a frightening plight? The rediscovery of nature and the practice of not being dominated by technology. Heidegger (1977) also suggested a rediscovery of the true meaning of the word technology and having a free and healthier relationship with it.We allow now realize at how the ideas of Heidegger the depict media, production, distribution, consumption and technological environments and its effects on contemporary life.In modern contemporary life, item-by-items and groups are inundated and coerced with messages and ideologies from various media houses, conglomerates and corporate entities into buying or believing ideas of what they should think about themselves, their social groups and society as a whole. These messages are transported through various media.Heideggers view of our relationship to technology is one of enslavement. The fact that humanity is being graphically portrayed according to Heidegger as being (19774) unfree and chained to technology deems the impression that there must be an entity that was able to enslave humanity. This entity is the dominating force of the owners of media production and distribution that have the ultimate agenda to control the emotional, psychological and financial futures of its audience. The strategy is basically capitalist in nature and is designed to keep the lulu or listener as a loyal, passive follower and consumer of the goods and serve offered by the producer. Heidegger (1977) was correct in portraying technology as a contrivance, a device. This device is not however, forced upon the population. It is, in fact, eased into their consciousness. Marcuse (2004) famed that the overall strategy of media producers is one of identification of the beliefs of the people. The population are then, according to Marcuse (2004 67) trained to identify their faiths with t hem. This is the portal which Heideggers theories on technological dominance come through and the effects of media are felt. The mass media uses the science of enframing to emotionally divide, stomp and enslave the loyal follower into believing that a product, concept, gadget or idea would give them piece of mind and a sense of security. For the producers of media enframing is a powerful ally who primary duty according to Heidegger (197727) is the regulating and securing of the standing-reserve Heideggers use of the term standing-reserve is an effective description of the consumers of mass media. The population is categorized by advertisers along the demographics of where they live, age group, gender, social status, income and other factors. Commercials or concepts are then targeted at these sectors through a variety of media. This concept of showing the differences in any given population to serve financial goals was not bewildered by Adorno and Horkheimer (200297) who state that Something is provided for everyone so that no one can feed differences are hammered home and propagated. In advertising, the population is looked upon as a human resource who, if properly coerced would buy into the capitalists agendas. The effect created from this form of advertising to the targeted audience from these messages is that the advertised product is essential for contemporary life and once acquisition of the new product is completed they would be at the read/write head of their social group. The attachment placed on the feeling of acquiring the possession is actually not derived from the consumer but it is, in actuality, induced from the outside via the messages from the advertiser. The relationship between the consumer and the product is one of a slave to a have the best where the consumer feels that they must have the product to fulfil an emotional need. If the product is undone or misplaced the consumer may feel lost without the use of the product. An example of this kind of enslavement by technology can be seen in the rise, popularity and reliance of global positioning systems or GPS in vehicles and smartphones. In the area of transportation GPS systems has replaced the use of maps. These systems are programmed to do the thinking for the substance absubstance abuser, communicating with the user and giving directions to the locations of the best restaurants, the easiest traffic routes to take and also where the nearest muck up stations are. The user is not required to think but have been conditioned to rely on pre-programmed instructions from an external, mechanical source. We now look at Heideggers thoughts on the hazards of our relationship with technology and some of its effects in the postmodern age.The view of Heidegger in regards to the concept of the standing-reserve gives rise to media producers taking receipts of the apparent gullibility of the consumer. The constant differentiations that distinguish peoples for all walks of lif e are being constantly broadcasted by the dominant media. There is a risk of a person of any race being typecast by certain demeanoural patterns that the media claims through its broadcasting to be the typical behaviour of that race. This is but one of the aspects that philosophers Adorno and Horkheimer used to coin the term The Culture diligence defining the industry as (200295) the false identity of universal and particular. Adorno and Horkheimer (2002) lapse their analysis of the media landscape by discovering that producers of media adhere to formulas that produce the greatest financial gain. These methods include stereotyping the behavioural the roles of the various demographics. One of Heideggers the greatest fears concerns humanitys relationship to technology and its disregard for nature. He saw that consumerism and the concept of objects being viewed as standing reserve will become so much a part of the emotional and social landscape that it will become all-consuming. Th e threat, according to Heidegger (197733) of everything will present itself only in the unconcealedness of standing-reserve. has been gradually coming to pass. Heidegger (1977) gives the examples of how words like industry are now being attached to various human endeavours, an example of the use of human resources and the profitability forest to supply woodwind to various industries. He concludes that man is also responsible for the way he things about himself and his surroundings. An example of the power of the standing reserve on a world-wide scale can be seen in the rise and control of the American mass media that has dominated the lesser known media landscapes due to its economic power and reach. For these lesser known glossinesss, due to their lack of sufficient funding to pilot program themselves from the onslaught of a well-funded, hyper-commericalized and heavily-mediated American media machine, have found themselves at the lenity of surrendering and at times disassociat ing themselves from their indigenous cultural norms in favour of the make needs they consume via the mediated American cultural standard. The effects of this fountain by outside sources have led to a change in the wants and needs of weaker populations. Due to the lack of proper resistance they will bulge to aspire to the mediated American wants and needs, aspire to the American standard of beauty and absorb in ever-increasing volumes the cultural norms, language patterns and political views of the dominant media landscape. The American broadcasts to the weaker cultures however are only a construct of their culture industry. This construct can be seen in through the view of Adorno and Horkheimer (2002108) who state the culture industry remains in the entertainment business. Its control of consumers is mediated by entertainment. With this is mind producers of American media, are seeing populations from different countries who consume American content as merely the standing reserve of potential customers. The thoughts of Adorno and Horkheimer are similar to Heidegger in the belief that in postmodern life individuals are losing the ability to think for themselves due to outside influences. This ability to be influenced by the media in terms of what to buy, what to eat, who to admire and when to shop are all effects of the process of enframing. The blanket marketing of goods and services to the consumer creates a situation where the individual is lost in the comodified sterotype of the typical purchaser of that product. The originality of the individual it therefore lost. The facility of how the message from outside is absorbed is a reflection of how the deal see themselves in relation to how they want to be seen by society. The more the people allow themselves to be enframed by outside influences the easier it will be the masses to be manipulated into an identity they were previously foreign to.Consumerism, in regards to the acquisition of gaining access to information, falls under the scope of technology being all-encompassing, encouraging the user to be always connected to information. The Blackberry smartphone has become one of status symbols of postmodern living. Under the guise of convenience and easy access to the cyberspace the Blackberry smartphone encourages the consumer to be always connected to online content the internet provides various paths of easy access to information and communication. In the postmodern age, access to information is marketed to be best enjoyed through a medium that is ubiquitous. The effects of being always connected to information makes, for the producer of content, an easier and more accurate way of tracking the viewing and listening habits of the consumer. Thus there is the possibility to accurately target specific commercials to users. Regarding the features of the Blackberry and the promise of easy access to sextuple forms of information, the relationship between the consumer and the medium of information is even substantiveer than that of an ordinary handset because the Blackberry is seen as a necessary postmodern convenience. Due to the strong influence of the media in regards to mediating messages regarding the acquisition of certain possessions and that their possession constitutes the baseline standard that an individual has properly integrated themselves into the postmodern age, the choosing of not acquiring these possessions may seem, to the person whose goal is to attain possession of these assists, as irrational. This technological rationality, how we relate to technology, is a social process whereby according to Marcuse (2004) the producers of the culture industry give to the passive consumer goods that the consumer thinks they need but in reality, the need was mediated from the producer. In the final analysis the same power that is has gripped the masses regarding the skewed relation to technology is the same power that can liberate humanity from it. Heidegger was very keen on questioning humanitys relationship with technology. He was convinced that humanity can liberate itself from the clutches of technology. According to Heidegger (1977) his belief that humanity can be saved from the dangers of technology, not by creating better technologies and facing the danger head on but by re-establishing the original relationship with the word technology will bring humanity in realignment with nature. Heidegger states this can be done by (197733) human reflection He continues to state that when humanity reflects and continues to question the true meaning of technology the rediscovery of the meanings of techne and poiesis will come forth. He was of the belief that since humanity was once close to nature especially in advance the postmodern age we have the responsibility to rediscover our relation to nature. He was also of the belief in the use of technologies that would not place extraordinary demands on the environment. In his essay (1977) th e use of a windmill was used as an example to show the harmony between technology and nature.
